We have just come back from a lovely few days away just the two of us in Belfast. It was so nice but I did miss the kids (and the dog) and so we are having lots of cuddles tonight!!!!!

I am looking forward to a busy week, you will see the online and face to face timetable below, I know it can be hard at this time of the year to get motivated but if you can dig deep and keep up with the classes you will feel so much better!

Who am I?

I have had so many new followers and customers lately I thought I would re introduce myself and tell you a little about who I am and what I do!

So I am a fitness instructor with a passion for helping women get healthier and fitter in a realistic way!
I am married with 2 kids 16 and 8, plus a crazy 3 year old Cockerpoo

I was a Bank Manager for Lloyds TSB before I made the decision aged 30 to change careers......I am now 43 so it was a good one as I have been going 13 years

I love chocolate and red wine

I love reality telly......Strictly, I'm a Celeb, Married at First Sight.......plus never miss Loose Women (thats my lunch break)

And finally I LOVE my job with a passion and consider myself blessed to do what I do and help so many people get healthier!

Monday Motivation

Here we go into another week....are you ready???


The way this week shapes up is in our own hands....we can decide if we are going to eat well, if we are going to do some exercise, if we are going to have some booze free days.......if we are going to prioritise sleep...


These are all things I will be working on in my 21 Day Summer Wellness Project which kicks off today!!!!! Good luck if you are part of that with me...


If not then I hope you still manage to do some of the above and that you have a fantastic week


I will be teaching a HIIT week online this week and teaching a full timetable of live classes in Sutton Coldfield...lets go!!!!

Exercise in the Heat

​As we are having such lovely weather at the moment I thought I would share some top tips for exercise in the heat...


1. Stay hydrated....we lose more water when we are hotter so even more important to keep drinking your water


2. Wear loose comfy clothing and think about a change of top if doing 2 classes back to back


3. Modify your workout to suit you, maybe think about taking a lower impact version of a move if you are feeling too warm


4. Choose the cooler times of the day to workout.....my online class members will join me at 6.30am and 9am before it has got too hot, they could also choose later at night as all classes can be done on the replay

Are you investing in your health?

I was reading an article the other day that really interested me and it was talking about how people are struggling to pay bills at the moment and about bills going up etc....BUT


How important it was that people still invested in their health.


They were saying that often when people are looking to save money one of the first things to go are things like expensive gym memberships and healthy shopping.


I get that we all have to look to save money wherever we can but investing in our health has to come quite high up the priority list I think, don't you?


An investment into getting some exercise and buying some healthy food is an investment into making sure we stay around as long as we can with the best quality of life we can.


SO my question to you today is where is your health and wellbeing on your priority list?????


It doesn't have to be expensive, you can shop wisely and still eat well, I am a very savvy shopper! And you don't have to pay massive gym membership fees if you don't want to......walking is free and exercise from home is cheaper with no petrol costs etc.


Let me know your thoughts on this? Perhaps you have recently stopped a gym membership due to cost or are shopping differently now?

Healthy Recipes

Cauliflower, Butter Bean and Spinach Dhal
 
Ingredients
100g spinach
1 red onion chopped
1 tomato chopped
100g red lentils rinsed
2 garlic cloves chopped
1 tbsp ginger
1 red chilli finely chopped
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp garam masala
1 tin butter beans
500ml vegetable stock
Half cauliflower cut into small pieces
2 tsp english mustard
 
Fry the red onion and tomato in a little oil until soft, add the lentils, garlic, chilli and all the spices.
 
Cook for a few minutes before adding the butter beans, cauliflower and stock, bring to a simmer for 25 minutes, keep stirring and a little water if it starts to stick, you want the lentils to be soft.
 
Then add the mustard and spinach to the pan and give it all a good stir until the spinach has wilted.
 
Serve with rice or flatbreads

Do you need convenience and flexibility?

I asked my online class members to share some of the benefits they get from online classes with me .....these are some of the replies.....flexibility and convenience comes top!!!

I think that many people know they need to exercise but if they are trying to do something that requires a lot of effort, travelling to a venue, booking places, taking up a lot of time then they often stop as it just becomes a faff......this is where online fitness comes into its own....in my opinion......no travelling, choosing when and what classes you do without even leaving the house!

I love it when people get in touch to share how they found me and how they are getting on with my classes and course...this lovely message from Clare shows how online classes are so convenient for people........




" I have just watched your video and would like to say, I don't know how I found you to be honest as I don't do social media so I think it must have been you tube maybe. I was always searching for fitness videos but couldn't get into them and never returned back to one I found, but when I discovered yourself, the online fitness is fun, and if I'm busy 20-30 mins is easy to fit in. Although you have me hooked as I always manage 2 classes each time I log on.
I try to do all of your classes that are on the timetable every week and I do feel better, I also feel it's good for my mind as you get older its harder to remember moves and steps. You make them so enjoyable and because you are so genuine, you let Alfie join in you talk about your family it just feels like i'm working out with a friend.
I was a member of a gym before covid and I enjoyed the fitness but hated walking in alone and facing all of the people that would rather look at themselves, it wasn't for me so when covid hit I started walking but wanted to tone and strengthen I got weights but didn't know what to do with them, but now I have a happy balance.
I have got up this weekend nice and early logged on done 2 classes each morning and its not a chore because its out the way, done and I feel better "

I love the start of a new month , a time to set new goals and start a blank page in the diary! Can you believe we are into May???
 
How has this year been so far for you? 
 
What do you want to achieve this month? Is working on your health and wellness high on your priority list?
 
I would recommend setting maybe 3 small goals .....writing them down......it could be to meal plan this month, maybe to get out for a daily walk, perhaps you want to increase your water intake?????
 
I would love you to message me and tell me how you are feeling about the rest of the year and what you would like to achieve........

My Thoughts in this uncertain time

If you are anything like me you are finding the world a little bit of a scary place at the moment.......I have spent the last few weeks with my head in the sand a little bit...I am very much a carry on as normal person until I absolutely cannot...
 
I have taken the attitude that it is being sensationalised in the media and that if you are healthy you don't have to worry too much...
 
But even I in the last few days have started to become a little worried....
 
I couldn't get pasta or toilet rolls when I went shopping yesterday...I don't get the toilet roll thing...if someone could enlighten me?
 
But I do feel that as long as we follow the advice being given ....... be vigilant about hand washing etc then I am going to carry on as normally as I can....
 
One thing it has drawn me towards though is the need to stay as healthy as we can, we know that those with underlying health conditions as well as the elderly are at greater risk
 
So what can we do to stay as healthy as possible and keep our immune systems good? This article by Arianna Huffington about the healthy habits we can add to our lives...sums it up very well......have a read HERE .
 
These are always habits we should adopt but even more so at this time.....
 
We need to
 
Focus on sleep.....research shows from tests done that people who are tired are more likely to get colds etc..chronic lack of sleep causes a reduction in our immune system
 
Staying hydrated and avoiding processed foods....avoiding sugar can help us reduce chronic inflammation which contributes to the conditions that put us at greater risk of viruses
 
Finally avoid stress...this greatly impacts our immune system
 
So my message today is that I recognise this is an uncertain and worrying time for us all........but I think there is a need to keep calm, follow sensible precautions that we have been given, be vigilant about hand washing etc and try to continue with following a healthy lifestyle as much as possible
 
As I write this my classes are continuing as normal....people are still attending as normal and just making sure that they wash their hands and be sensible...the need to be healthy has never been greater..
