Are all Calories equal?

5/17/2017

A Kick Start we don't believe in counting calories or points, we promote healthy clean food eaten as 3 meals a day

We do not cut carbs out....just choose good carbs over bad.....

It got me to thinking about how I used to obsess over points and calories

Evidence is now pointing towards calorie counting being flawed when it comes to dieting, they are saying that low calorie foods like white rice and potatoes are actually playing a big part in the rise in obesity.

They talk about how a calories worth of salmon (protein) will affect body weight compared to a calories worth of white rice (refined carbohydrate).

I have long held this belief as how can a McDonalds be compared to a healthy balanced meal if it actually contains the same calories. That McDonalds is going to affect your body in a completely different way right?

I know back in the days when I used to eat the occasional McDonalds I would feel lethargic and actually unwell afterwards, completely different to how I feel after eating a healthy clean meal even if it did contain the same calories.

Over the years I myself have done various diets, I think I have probably done them all!!!

I remember counting out the calories and thinking "oh I can have that bag of crisps or that chocolate because it fits into my points/calories for the day" and I wasn't really thinking about the ingredients in the food at all. In fact I remember one points based diet back in the day where I had worked it out so that I could eat a Curly Wurly every day (remember my sugar addiction that I talked about!!!)

When you stop counting calories and just eat proper food that hasn't been processed and has real ingredients in, you feel a release from that constant totting up in your head of the calories as well.

Who wants to be doing a mental maths lesson every time they eat something anyway?

Feel free to let me know your thoughts, are you a calorie totter up or do you just forget the calories and enjoy proper food????

Is Obesity a Hormonal Problem?

5/9/2017

I have been doing some studying into hormones

The information being around the fact that those who are struggling to lose weight have a hormonal imbalance...we know it is not simply a case of eating less and moving more

IT IS SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT....

Our hormones are telling us whether to burn fat or store fat....

Wow!!

All these years of being told

Eat low fat
Exercise for hours
Use smaller plates
Count your calories

When if your hormones are not in check.......it is going to be really hard for your body to burn fat...in fact there are many factors which will make your hormones tell your body to store FAT...

And to add to that, from the age of 31 our hormones start to decline......

So getting our hormones in balance is key to becoming a FAT BURNING machine!!!!

So how can we eat for health......how can we try to maximise the way our bodies burn fat?????

1. Cut out processed foods and refined sugars

2. Eat a diet rich in proteins and good fats....FAT IS NOT THE ENEMY

3. Cut down on alcohol and caffeine

4. Cut out stress from your life

Let me know your thoughts....

8 Ways To Stop Sugar Cravings

5/3/2017

If you have cleaned up your diet but still missing sugar
it can be a tough at times.

Everyone will battle cravings from time to time.

So here are my 8 top
tips to HALT those pesky cravings
& stop them in their tracks.

When cravings sneak into your brain and you simply
CANNOT think of anything else but devouring
a GALAXY Bar / a whole jar of peanut butter/
monster packs of M & M’s or whatever it may be
here are my  strategies.....

1: Do a HIIT Workout.
A quick 10minute will flood
your body and brain with happy hormones & a post
workout high

2:DRINK first.
You are more than likely
dehydrated  so drink a 1 litre
of bottled water.

3:Eat more Vegetables.
Load up at on your veggies at every meal.
Veggies are filling & are amazing sources of fibre.
They suppress hunger
and keep you satisfied for longer.

4: Nuts.
If you are really craving sugar then choose nuts.
Not salted or roasted go for organic or natural.
Almonds, Hazelnuts, Cashews are fab.

5: STRESS will definitely play a massive role in your cravings.
Try practising meditation on a daily basis.
Start with 2 minutes & build up
your daily practice.

6: SLEEP is the body’s reset button and in the case of
sugar cravings
insufficient sleep will drive your cravings into overdrive.
Go to bed by 1030 & sleep in a bat cave switching
of all infra-red stand bys & phones.

7: Use positive affirmations.
Have a daily mantra that you use
and replay in your mind. It could be “I only choose to
eat healthy food” and when faced with a craving focus on
your mantra.

8: THINK FORWARD. I always “think forward”
& think about how I feel
if I  cave and eat a bag of M & M’s/Galaxy/Peanut bar jar etc etc

I can recreate the feeling
of bloatedness, feeling tired, sick even in my mind
and that is usually enough
to snap me out of it.

Has this helped you?
