Why Can't I Sleep

You may or may not be surprised to learn that sleep and lack of it contributes significantly to not only your overall health but also your weight loss goals

One reason why people may struggle to sleep is due to a deficiency in Magnesium

​Magnesium deficiency can manifest itself in a few ways

Inability to sleep

Disturbed sleep

Cramps

Muscle pain

Anxiety

Facial tics

​So how can you get more magnesium into your diet?

I suggest starting to incorporate the following foods into your diet over the next few weeks and see if you see an improvement in your sleep or any of the other symptoms I mentioned

Almonds

Avocados

Leafy green veg

Fish
Cashew nuts

These foods are all great sources of magnesium

​It is interesting to note that alcohol, sugar, caffeine, fizzy drinks and stress can all stop your body absorbing magnesium.

​So my tip for this week is to have a think about how you could incorporate some of these magnesium rich foods into your diet and perhaps think about how you can reduce some of the factors that inhibit your bodies ability to absorb magnesium.

Top Tips to Lose Belly Fat

Today I want to tackle the issue of fat around the middle as I know that lots of my clients would like to lose fat from this area.


The main point I want to make is that all the sit ups in the world will not help you lose fat from your tummy if you are not eating right.


They say that abs are made in the kitchen and this is very true so here are my 

Top 5 Tips to lose Weight from your Tummy


1. Cut out sugar....a diet high in sugar will contribute to fat being gathered around your middle


2. Cut out toxins like caffeine, alcohol and processed foods. When your liver is working on overdrive to clear out toxins it can not burn fat


3. Get enough quality sleep and cut down on stress. When we are tired or stressed the body releases Cortisol which is a stress hormone that encourages the body to hold onto fat stores in a sort of fight or flight mode


4. Drink lots of water to help your body flush out toxins and reduce bloating around your tummy


5. Eat good quality fats, coconut oil is my favourite, it will help you feel fuller for longer and enhance your metabolism

National Fitness Day

Tomorrow the 9th September is National Fitness Day


I couldn't let that pass without mentioning it....


I will be supporting it with a run in the morning, Zumba and Zumba Gold in the morning and then Piloxing on the evening,phew!


​So plenty of fitness for me!


How will you celebrate it?



Will you be doing a class, going to the gym, doing a workout at home, running, swimming what is your favourite way to keep fit?


I think September is a wonderful month to look at your fitness goals and set yourself some new ones


I read something this week though about PE at school and it took me back to my PE days, it may surprise some of you that I absolutely hated it!


I used to do anything I could to get out of it, I wasn't sporty, I hated the showers after, the whole memory of PE at school makes me shiver


​I didn't discover my love of exercise until I left school at 17, and then I dabbled in and out of it until really falling in love with it at 30


It makes me smile to think about that now as these days Monday - Friday at least I live in my trainers and sports gear, constantly engaging in exercise!


I dont know what changed but I am glad that it did as exercise and fitness make my life complete, I can't imagine what I would do if I couldn't exercise.

My Top Tips for Healthy Eating

So I thought that this week I would blog and share some of my top tips for healthy eating.

So here goes...




1. My absolute top tip is to eat clean. Eating clean means eating only unprocessed food that do not contain loads of ingredients. If you look at a food and it contains a whole host of ingredients some of which you have never heard of then it is not a great choice. I don't believe in counting calories or weighing and measuring everything, I believe in eating clean food.




2. No snacking. If you are eating three healthy filling meals every day there is no need to snack. Everytime we eat our hormone levels are affected and we need to give the body a break from eating and working to digest our food constantly.




3. Keep hydrated. Aiming for a minimum of 2 litres of water a day and making water your choice of beverage avoiding any fizzy carbonated drinks.




4. Staying away from fast food. Steering clear of McDonalds, Burger King, KFC etc has to be in my top tips as I feel these foods are not only bad for your waistline and health but make you feel awful!




5. Eat a protein rich breakfast. No cereals or toast for breakfast, instead make eggs your top choice and have them scrambled, poached, boiled or however you wish. They will fill you up all day and really keep you going.
