How many diets do you reckon you have done?

1/7/2020

January...the telly is full of programmes about diets isn't it....I can't help watching them even though I have probably over the years done pretty much every diet going!!!

I find them compulsive viewing even though I absolutely know that the only way to lose weight and keep it off is to burn off more fuel than we take on board through food..

There are many different ways to do that and it really is not one size fits all,  and that is why in my weight loss groups we try a different theme each week to see what works best for every individual, however the simple science always boils down to the fact you lose weight when you are in a calorie deficit

So how many diets have you done over the years.......what has worked and what has not? Are you currently on a "diet"? Or does the thought of dieting make you reach for the biscuit tin????

I don't like to deprive myself of anything...that is why I am not doing dry January...it just makes me want the thing I have given up even more....that is why on my course we don't deprive ourselves of anything completely..everything in moderation....

Would love to hear your thoughts as we go into 2020......

How do you stay motivated at this time of year?

10/15/2019

It can be hard to stay motivated when the nights draw in....the temptation to just stay on the sofa rather than go out to exercise is HIGH..I get that!!!!

Also the shops are already starting to fill their shelves with the Xmas goodies.......soon the coffee shops will have their specialty drinks in......I was behind 2 ladies in a queue in Aldi this week both buying mince pies....

BUT IF WE START EATING ALL THE GOODIES AND HIBERNATING NOW.......WHAT WEIGHT WILL YOU GAIN AND HOW WILL YOU FEEL BY THE NEW YEAR

I love this time of the year...this run up to Xmas is my ABSOLUTE favourite and I am no party pooper...

BUT

If I start on the mince pies and baileys now then I will gain a stone by January...FACT!!

And I do not want to do that!!!!

So my message today is stay motivated.....make good food choices.......avoid the SUGAR and rubbish and keep up with the exercise routine...it only takes 2 weeks for your fitness levels to start to decrease!!!

Do my clients drink booze?

9/16/2019

"But I cant give up my glass of wine"

This is something I hear all the time!

And why should you!

So this is my take on booze and this is what I follow myself and what I tell my clients..

Yes alcohol is not full of nutrients and yes it can give you the munchies and mean that you are more tempted by treats...BUT it is nice and many of my clients and me myself really enjoy a drink and DONT WANT TO GIVE IT UP

So how do you get healthier and lose weight whilst still having a drink?

This is something I will be covering a lot and teaching on my next 6 week Kick Start Home course...BUT for today the tip I will share with you is

Have a think about how much you drink and what drinks you tend to choose.....if you drink 5 nights a week now could you drop to 3.....if you love wine on a Friday and Saturday could you make the Friday a G & T night instead......?????

Maybe you just need to get a bit smarter??

Let me know your thoughts.........what is your favourite tipple?

Eating for Mental Health

5/15/2019

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and I am going to be basing my blogs and videos around how I think our mental health can be affected by what we put in our body, how we move it, how we treat it and how we view it...its a big subject and I think its great that more of us are talking about this......all the views I am going to give are just my thoughts reflecting on how I feel from time to time and what my clients are telling me on a daily basis (and I come into contact with a lot of women!)

The first one today is looking at food...

Lets start by looking at our body like a car.......your car needs fuel and that needs to be the correct fuel in order for it to run smoothly with no glitches and do the job that it needs to do..

Our body is the same.....if you are not putting enough fuel in or the wrong type how can we expect our bodies to function properly, effectively and without glitches...

I know from my own personal experiences along with all the women that I speak to that if I drink a lot of alcohol, eat takeaways all week, pump myself with sugar that I feel CRAP....(excuse the language)

Yes we all needs treats and life needs to be a balance but when I have days where I drink loads of water...eat veggies and proper food....I FEEL so much better!

So I am not talking about weight loss here necessarily I am talking about how I FEEL..........

Eating junk and drinking a lot will affect your mental health 100%...I have had the pleasure of interviewing people for my radio show and coaching people who have mental health issues and they all say that when they consciously think about their food and making it as healthy as possible there symptoms are more manageable....

So to tie it all up...yes I have a glass of wine and a takeaway sometimes and so do my clients......but I try to have more days that I go booze free and keep my meals healthy not just to keep my weight in check but so that I feel good in my mind..........

I would love to hear your thoughts on this...do you have experiences of your diet or maybe your caffeine or alcohol intake affecting your mental health....I will be doing a live video on this on my Facebook page and my Instagram account today..

The Benefits of Quitting Sugar

2/19/2019

Kicking the sugar habit is not the easiest task but if you are considering giving it a try then here is something that may just sway you
  1. Your skin will look more youthful
Cutting sugar can reduce the signs of ageing. Studies suggest that the amount of sugar in the blood  sets up a molecular domino effect called glycation, which ultimately leaves skin less firm and elastic.

2. You’ll have less belly fat

This is the visceral or “deep” fat that builds up around vital organs like your liver, pancreas, and intestines. Stubborn and hard to get rid of, it’s also dangerous; visceral fat is a known risk factor for heart disease and diabetes.

3. You’ll feel more energized

BOOST your energy ! Added sugars are simple carbohydrates. This means they’re digested fast and enter your bloodstream quickly, providing that sugar high that helps jump-start your energy and alertness. But as anyone who relies on sugar for a pick-me-up knows, once that shot of sugar is metabolized, you’re in for a crash.

4. You’ll lower your risk of obesity

There is a distinct link to consuming sugar and obesity. Watch the pounds drop off when you cut out sugar!

5. Your heart will be in better shape

A healthy heart helps you power through your day, but the more added sugar in your diet, the higher your risk of heart disease – even if your weight is in a healthy range.

6. You’ll cut your odds of type 2 diabetes

Research shows the link between sugar and developing type 2 diabetes, cut it down and you will cut your odds significantly.

Have You Heard of Fasting?

11/13/2018

Its something I get asked about a lot........

So firstly fasting is NOT for everyone and especially if you have ever suffered with disordered eating HOWEVER for 90% of my clients trying out a bit of fasting works really well......

IT IS A GREAT TOOL FOR WEIGHT LOSS AND ALSO HAS SOME HEALTH BENEFITS

Essentially the fasting I recommend is 14-16 hours so skipping breakfast is what most people do.......there are some extra things that you have to bear in mind when fasting and obviously this is something I guide my clients through......

So

Have you tried fasting?? Was it for you??? Have you been hearing about it but not sure how it works?

I personally fast 4/5 times a week....

Hit me back if you want to find out more about fasting or how you can work with me one on one...

Is Breakfast a Problem for You?

12/9/2015

Hi,

For EVER, we have been told to eat breakfast immediately upon awakening.

The food marketeers and food companies have ingrained that message into our brain so deeply from the early 70’s

BUT

If you listen to your body.
Are YOU really a breakfast person?

Have you had a sneaky feeling in the back of your mind that you are not actually hungry first thing?

But you eat anyway thinking that is the healthy approach.

BUT

And as soon as you do eat it seems to open the floodgates to being hungry all day?

Is this you?

* * You are actually not hungry first thing?

* * The moment you finish eating breakfast, you suddenly feel ravenous?

* * Eating breakfast first thing makes you so ravenous that you start eating more food within 20 minutes of having finished eating breakfast?

It is as if I had not even eaten breakfast!

Are you then counting down the seconds until your next meal?

For many people , eating breakfast first thing in the morning is the equivalent of opening
up the floodgates to an all-day snack-a-thon?

Why Does Eating Breakfast Make You Hungrier?

About 20-30 minutes after you wake up in the morning, your blood cortisol levels increase by about 50%.

This is the Cortisol Awakening Response (CAR), and it happens in anticipation of the demands of your upcoming day.

So your cortisol levels rise reach a peak around the same time as you eat your morning breakfast.

This augments your feeding-induced insulin secretion.

In other words, if you eat something during CAR, your insulin secretion is boosted.

The insulin surge is followed by a drop in your blood glucose, with the result being extreme hunger.

This would NOT occur if you ate the same meal later in the day.

Pushing your BREAKFAST or first meal of the day back to a later time can be called intermittent fasting.

You are not skipping a meal you are simply pushing it back to a later time giving your digestive system a break.

There are some amazing studies & research around showing the benefits of intermittent fasting
on fatloss and health in general.

Once You Start, You Can't Stop

If you eat breakfast in the morning, and then you just can't stop eating thereafter, try changing your breakfast timing

AND ensure you eat a High Fat / Good Protein style breakfast.

For example:-)

Salmon, Eggs & Avocado
Eggs (any style) cooked in coconut oil.
Organic bacon & eggs cooked in coconut oil.
Create your own Greens Juice.

Think of it as a healthy fat burning ”brunch”

The fats and protein will keep you going for hours, no need to snack and you feel

alert, energised and on top of your game for the rest of the day.

Three Reasons To Eat Your Breakfast Later
* * End Chronic Hunger
* * Anti-Aging: Fasting allows the body to discard damaged parts of your cells. This is integral to anti-aging.

* * Fat-Burning: Fasting promotes the release of body fat for fuel.

Why?

In order to burn body fat, your insulin levels must be very low.

This can be achieved through short-term fasting.

Push your breakfast time later after your overnight fast, and you will finally be able to burn your stored fat for fuel.

Of course no one solution suits everyone and this MIGHT not be for you but if you identify with any of the above then give it a go and see how you feel

Let me know what you think

Anyway today I want to talk to you about “Eating clean”!!

"Isn't it funny how you can hear a new popular word or phrase for ages before you actually work out what it means? Like LOL and BTW!

For a long time now we have been using the phrase “eating clean”

And after speaking to a few of my clients they are unsure of what it really means.

Yeah they know it’s about eating healthy but what counts as‘Clean Food’?

Well…..

It’s all about removing the toxins from your diet to give your body a chance to start working more efficiently.

Eating clean generally means removing certain foods from your diet.

Removing foods like: Refined sugar, Alcohol, caffeine, processed food, wheat and gluten to name a few.

The more of these foods we eat the more unhealthy we will become!!

Now it’s not easy to start removing all of these foods from your diet and replace them with something more nutritious and healthy in one go…is it?

That is where my new cookbook can be a life saver, a cookbook meal planner that tells you what to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner for 30 days. That’s 90 different healthy recipes, how easy would that make things?

A cook book that tells you exactly how to prepare and cook these foods, saving your valuable time ?

Eat Clean with Kelly does exactly this!

90 meals of healthy (and clean!) eating!!!

I have included a lunch recipe for you below so that you can see how easy and quick these recipes can be, enjoy!

Have a great day

My Top Tips for Healthy Eating

9/3/2015

So I thought that this week I would blog and share some of my top tips for healthy eating.

So here goes...

1. My absolute top tip is to eat clean. Eating clean means eating only unprocessed food that do not contain loads of ingredients. If you look at a food and it contains a whole host of ingredients some of which you have never heard of then it is not a great choice. I don't believe in counting calories or weighing and measuring everything, I believe in eating clean food.

2. No snacking. If you are eating three healthy filling meals every day there is no need to snack. Everytime we eat our hormone levels are affected and we need to give the body a break from eating and working to digest our food constantly.

3. Keep hydrated. Aiming for a minimum of 2 litres of water a day and making water your choice of beverage avoiding any fizzy carbonated drinks.

4. Staying away from fast food. Steering clear of McDonalds, Burger King, KFC etc has to be in my top tips as I feel these foods are not only bad for your waistline and health but make you feel awful!

5. Eat a protein rich breakfast. No cereals or toast for breakfast, instead make eggs your top choice and have them scrambled, poached, boiled or however you wish. They will fill you up all day and really keep you going.
