Top Tips for Clean Eating

4/24/2015

This week I wanted to revisit an old subject but I think it is always good to remind ourselves of what we need to be aiming to achieve in our diet to make us feel the best we can!

I advocate clean eating with all my clients and this is what my Hot Body Diet is based on.

Today I want to share with you some of the principles my clients follow to make sure they stayhealthy and trim!

So here are my Top 5 Tips for Clean Eating

1. Eat a protein rich breakfast - ditch the cereal and toast TODAY and eat eggs, meat, fish and lots of green veggies for breakfast.

2. Drink a mimimim of 3 litres of water a day, you can include herbal or fruit teas but not the water in coffee or tea.

3. Stop snacking between meals, eat till you are full and satisfied three times a day and there should be no need to snack.

4. Cut out bread, I believe that lots of people have an intolerance to bread and this intolerance can vary greatly, it may just be a bit of bloating or it may be much worse. Stop eating bread for a week and see how you feel. Then re introduce just a small amount if you really can't live without it.

5. Stop eating cakes, chocolate and biscuits. All the things that you know contain the refined white stuff...SUGAR. I want to say here as well that this includes things like low fat biscuits and cakes promoted by some of the big weight loss companies. They are not good for you, just read the ingredients!

I guarantee that if you follow my top 5 tips for just a week, you will feel better, sleep better, have clearer skin and possible drop a few pounds as well.

Has Easter messed up your life?

So maybe not messed up your life...maybe thats a bit dramatic!!

But messed up your diet and fitness routine?

I as always like to be really honest and say that it has mine, in fact the last month when we had Mothers Day, followed by my birthday and then Easter has really messed up my diet especially.

Fitness wise hasn't been too bad for me, I did take a week off at Easter but I still managed some workouts at home.

HOWEVER my eating has been all over the shop!

I hate to say it, but sugar, that nasty little drug that I suffer with so much came back into my life.

It starts with just a little bit, "oh I will have some cake as its my birthday" or your mom buys you a box of chocolates "you can have a cheat" or you say "I will just have one Easter egg this year" but then your kids get bought loads and it invades the house and you can't help stealing some!

Its been a nightmare, I haven't weighed myself, I don't think I have put much weight on by my clothes, but its how I felt.

I could feel my energy levels slipping, I had a bad stomach, I got spots, I felt bloated and lethargic but most of all I don't like myself for letting sugar back in when I had done so well in kicking the habit.

So this week I started afresh, I haven't had any sugar since Monday.

It has been really hard as I am now craving it whereas my cravings had stopped, Jessica's chocolate seems to be calling me from the fridge!

However even though it is hard I am determined to do it again, as I already feel so much better.

I don't feel as bloated and my energy levels are getting back to normal.

I wanted to write this as from reading all the Facebook posts over in the Hot Body Diet group I think a lot of people slipped up over Easter.

Over in the Hot Body Diet Facebook page this week they have been brilliant, all supporting each other and accepting that it is human to slip up but that its the getting back on it thats important and not letting a slip up at Easter become a slip up for the whole of the year!

So I think to know that others feel the same way as you do is really important, and if you are reading this thinking this is me and this is how I feel,  then don't despair, just make today the day that you start to cut down and you will reap the rewards.

I would love as always to hear how you found Easter?

Did your diet and fitness go out the window, or did you keep on track?

If you slipped up how are you feeling? Have you managed to get back on it, or are you struggling?

The Truth about Sugar

4/2/2015

So following on from last weeks blog I think from the replies I received lots of you were of the same opinion as me, and that was that we didn't much fancy living to 150 if we had to eat one of those crazy diets!

The other programme I wanted to talk about was The Truth about Sugar, did you see that one?

I found this programme fascinating, I did know a lot of the places where sugar was hidden, but seeing that a tin of baked beans contains 6 teaspoons of sugar, is quite eye opening, would you agree?

I talk lots about sugar and I think you all know that I really struggle to avoid the sweet stuff.

For me though its the obvious places, chocolate, biscuits and cakes, but we all know they are loaded with sugar, right?

We are unaware though that our bran flakes have sugar in, or that when we eat a bowl of pasta that also is loaded with sugar.

Its obvious that the food industry wants to make the food attractive and tasty for us and so that is why they pump them with sugar, the low fat food that we have been conditioned over the years to think is better for us tend to be full of sugar to compensate for the taste as well!

I also was interested to see what sugar does to our insides, not only does it pack the pounds on but it is very ageing and can lead to heart disease and Type 2 diabetes.

I think everything in moderation, I try to live a sugar free life and encourage my clients to do so, but we are all human and will inevitably want a dessert or a cake occasionally.

It is being informed I think, if we can avoid the processed foods and the places where sugar is hidden then it leaves us able to enjoy the occasional treat from an  informed place.

As this weekend is Easter I am sure lots of you will be enjoying an Easter egg, as will I !!!!

Enjoy it but remember to perhaps cut back on the processed food over Easter.

I think a great thing to do is read the labels on everything in your cupboards to see where sugar is hidden away, hit reply and tell me the most surprising place you found it?
