My new morning routine

5/29/2015

I hope you are having a nice week and enjoying some sunshine ( the sun is shining as I write this!)

Funny for me but as I sit down to write this email to you today I am suffering from a little writers block.

Unusual for me as I usually have a lot to say for myself but hey ho, Jessica is off school this week and Jamie was home Monday and Tuesday and to be honest doesn't it throw you off track when your routine changes??

I do love having them at home but the place always seems a little messier and I feel guilty for sitting down to work.

So maybe the change in routine at home is whats contributed to my sudden writers block this week!

So with very little to say that I feel would be of any benefit to you today.....I am going to tell you about my new morning routine.

I read a book called the Miracle Morning, they propose you get up an hour earlier than usual and spend 10 minutes on 6 tasks, which are

Meditation
Visualising
Affirmations
Exercise
Reading
and Journaling

I have to admit that I am struggling a little with the whole hour as most mornings Jude is up anyway between 5 and 5.30, but I am doing some of it and I have to say it is a great way to start your day.

Jessica finds it strange when I stand in front of the mirror repeating my affirmations to myself but I am finding it is working.

When you say something to yourself out loud it seems to stick in the brain.....

My favourite at the moment is

" I am grateful that I opened my eyes this morning and have a healthy body"

I also love

" I am only going to put into my body today what it needs to function at its best"

Whats your morning routine like?

Do you like to take time for some exercise or to fill in a diary or is it all a mad rush?

Perhaps you like to say affirmations, if you do I would love to know your favourites?

How did it all begin for me?

This year Keep fit with Kelly will have been going for 5 years, which is a massive achievement for me and one which I am very proud of!

For those who dont know, my background was in financial services.

I started working as a cashier for the Woolwich when I was 17 and then moved over to Lloyds as an assistant manager at only 21.

From there I worked in independent financial services for a bit before I was made redundant in 2010 at just about the time I qualified as a Fitness Instructor.

My idea was that I would qualify and teach fitness as a second job in the evenings just as I loved it so much.

However I qualified in the May and was made redundant in the June.

The universe was telling me I should make a go of fitness full time, I thought and so I went for it,Keep fit with Kelly was born on the 1st August 2010 with a little Aerobics and Tone class at Falcon Lodge.

I still have some clients with me from those days!

How things have grown since then!

So was getting made redundant and being forced into working fitness full time the best thing for me? Was it scary and completely out of my comfort zone?

The answer is yes to both!

While being just about the most frightening thing I have ever done, starting my own business and becoming a fitness instructor has made me healthier and happier than I ever was before.

I was chatting to a lady in class the other day who was a teacher and now tutors privately and you could just tell from the way her eyes lit up when she spoke about teaching how much she loves it.

It is a wonderful thing if you can find a job that you love as I know there are lots of people who don't love their work, it is a necessity.

Do you love your job? Have you ever had a complete career change like me? Hit reply and let me know, I always love to read your replies!

Do you want to change things

I love this saying

"Do what you have always done to get what you have always got"

Its so true.

I meet clients all the time who want to change the way they look or improve their fitness or change the shape of their arms etc

But in order to do this we have to make a change

If we eat the way we always have or exercise the way we always have then you can't expect to change things

You may be one of the lucky ones who reads this and thinks I don't want to change what I have and thats great

However if you read this and think to yourself I do want to change this or that then you also may need to look inside and think what do I need to change in order to get that?

That doesn't just apply to diet and fitness, that applies to life in general

"If we always do what we have always done, then we will get what we have always got"

I help people to change what they do in terms of diet and fitness every day and I love it!

I love it when people say "I look at food differently now" or "I never thought I would ever do exercises that I do now" or "I am so much fitter and more flexible now than 20 years ago"

How do you get to be 65 stone?

5/8/2015

Did you see the news last week about the 32 year old who weighs 65 stone?

He is spending £200 a week on takeaways and food meaning he consumes....

10,000 calories a day!!

Who is bringing him the food in, his carers apparently.

In my opinion this man is addicted to food......

No one gets to that weight eating that amount of food without having lots of problems.

So simply continuing to bring him the food in, is not caring for him, we wouldn't continue to feed a drug addict or an alcoholic, we would help them to free themselves of the addiction.

We are seeing more and more of these stories in the press now....more and more people trapped in a cycle of eating and eating getting so big that they can't move, so guess what they just get bigger!

Then when they get bigger they feel awful and desperate, so what makes them feel better....the answer is food as it becomes their comfort in what must be a miserable life.

And so the cycle of abuse to their bodies goes on.

In my opinion we need to act now and help this man as the cost to the NHS if we don't will be huge over the next few years anyway.

What is it to be perfect?

What is perfect?

What makes the perfect diet, perfect exercise routine, perfect parent or partner?

I think that striving for perfection is setting yourself up to fail possibly.

Do we need to be perfect at everything we do?

Is it better to just strive to be the best we can and be human?

I got thinking about this on Tuesday when two things happened, firstly there was big uproar over an advert a company called Protein World ran with a woman who had obviously been airbrushed but had a perfect body I suppose, with the slogan "Are you beach body ready yet"

It is nothing new for companies to use an image of a "perfect" figure albeit they are airbrushed to look like that, to sell a product.

Personally I dont think it makes me think I can't go on a beach if I don't look like that, as I know its been airbrushed and for most people is unrealistic.

I love and embrace the fact that we are all different and have mummy tummies and imperfections, how boring the world would be if everyone just looked like that women in the advert.

The idea of what is a perfect body is so different as well, I like the figure that the women has, but not everyone will, for example I don't like the body builder look on men or women, but I know some people do.

So we are all different and who wants to be perfect anyway.

Then the second thing was that on Tuesday night I went wrong whilst teaching Zumba three or four times. Now those of you who come to my classes will know that is unusual for me. Do I care though, did any of my clients care?

No they didn't, we all just laughed and carried on, because guess what I am not perfect and bringing me back to the same point, who wants to be and wouldn't life be boring.

If I stood up there week in and week out, never going wrong or having a hair out of place I don't think my classes would have the same appeal.

All my clients know I am human, I sweat like they do, I go red in the face, I forget my steps, I have a normal body which isn't perfect, I cheat with my diet occasionally and I am always trying to lose a few pounds just  like everyone else.

But I dont want to be perfect, I think it would be boring!

As always I love to hear what you think, do you strive for perfection?

Did you see the advert and what are your thoughts?

Did it offend you or make you feel you can't go on a beach if you don't look like that?
